CHEF TRAINER
Overview
In an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Inspiration Corporation helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and housing. Serving as a catalyst for self-reliance, Inspiration Corporation has helped more than 10,000 Chicagoans in need since 1989.
The Chef Trainer is part of the Cafe Too Culinary Skills Program, which assists the homeless, ex-offenders and other people to become employed in the food service industry. Some of the major responsibilities include: Teach basic culinary skills in classroom and kitchen; Contact employers to help students to find jobs; Teach pre-employment skills: Contribute to improvement of the Cafe Too curriculum.
Available: June 2010
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Reports to: Head Chef Trainer
Schedule: Full-time between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday
Skills and Qualifications:
Associate degree from an accredited cooking school, Chicago Food Sanitation License; two years of related experience. Proficiency in Windows XP and Microsoft Office strongly desired; Strong commitment to personal and professional development required; Excellent communication and assessment skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment; Candidates who have worked with homeless or impoverished populations preferred or candidates with relevant life experiences or who are formerly homeless will be equally considered for the position.
