We would like to recognize Aptitive as our Volunteer Group of the Month! Over the past year, Aptitive has come in to offer computer tutoring sessions for our participants after they eat dinner. Thanks for helping our participants learn new skills and become more comfortable using technology! You can read about why they got involved and their experience below:
How did you hear about Inspiration Corporation?
Aptitive got in touch with Inspiration Corporation through one of our employees who had previously volunteered with them and loved the experience.
What is the most enjoyable part of volunteering for you? What is the most challenging?
The most enjoyable part of volunteering is being presented with the opportunity to help others improve their lives through technology in small, yet significant ways. We have helped people set up LinkedIn accounts, taught them how to use email so they can communicate with personal and professional contacts, and even taught someone how to access music from their phone!
Since we lead technology workshops, the most challenging aspect is finding ways to explain technical concepts to people who have fairly limited technology experience. While we do this every day as consultants, some people we have worked with have mentioned that they have only used a computer several times in their life.
Why do you volunteer?
At Aptitive, we feel that volunteering allows us to engage with our community in new and interesting ways. While many of our employees volunteer on their own, we know that connecting with volunteer opportunities is not always easy for busy professionals. Our Apt-togiveback committee helps to make it easier by finding, scheduling and executing volunteer opportunities.
Tell us about your organization.
Aptitive is a Chicago-based data & analytics consulting firm that helps companies to uncover the power of their data. Our consultants work with organizations to understand their business goals and turn that into a strategy to develop an end-to-end data solution.
What have you learned from your volunteer experience?
Our volunteer experience has helped us value the resources technology can provide, something we often take for granted. Many of us have been using email and various internet resources since we were young, so helping someone who has had limited access to learn about them emphasizes their value and the importance of sharing our knowledge.
Do you have any advice for someone who is considering becoming a volunteer with Inspiration Corporation?
The best piece of advice for someone who wants to volunteer at Inspiration Corporation is to be ready for anything and come in with an open mind. Each time we come volunteer presents us with completely new challenges and opportunities to learn from those who attend our sessions.
